25 Feb What your teacher didn’t tell you in grade school…
“If you dream it, you can achieve it.”- Your 5th grade teacher
Yah I know it’s pretty “generic blog title” but we have heard this saying our entire life but how many of us ACTUALLY believe that statement long after we have grown up. I would argue not many. Where does that sense of life go when we grow older. Is it that life has given us a beating over the last 10-20 years and shown us that dreaming it isn’t enough. Well I am here to tell you that YOU ARE CORRECT! That cherished statement that we tell all of our youth is only HALF true. You are missing one very important part to this statement. I have found It goes a little something like this “If you dream it AND work hard for it AND sweat for it AND lose sleep over it AND never give up AND take a lot of risks AND don’t listen to the naysayers…you can achieve it. LOL phew! Honestly I could have kept going on and on with that one but I kept it on the shorter side. You’re welcome. 😉
Today I was inspired to write this because of my own personal life experience. I logged onto my FB account today and saw a memories post from 3 years ago today. 3 years ago today my husband took me to NYC and we stumbled upon a Lamborghini dealership and figured “why the hell not”. Let’s go I and look. OBVIOUSLY we could not afford one of these cars but I have always been a dreamer and I just wanted to experience the car in person. That day I snapped a picture of a Lamborghini Huracan in the showroom and captioned it “#GOALS”. We spent and hour + walking around the dealership and made such friends with the sales staff that they invited my husband and I to a private showing of the BRAND NEW Lamborghini Huracan Performante. Now I wish I had pictures of that day to show you but the event was so exclusive they made you “turn in” your cell phone at the door. When I say I felt like a “fish out of water” walking into this event that would be an understatement. Here we are “little old business owners” from Buffalo, NY about to be rubbing shoulders with VERY elite & wealthy people of the largest city in America. Very quickly were my nerves put at ease when we were greeted by the CEO of Lamborghini with open arms. We mingled with all of the other guests, talked about their cars and car collections (since we didn’t own anything even remotely close to that level LOL). We sat front row for the reveal of this magnificent machine, they let me sit in it, start it up and from that moment on we KNEW we had to purchase one of these vehicles.
We went home from that NYC trip in 2017 with a new fire lit inside of our souls. WE HAD TO HAVE THIS CAR. I was going to do whatever it took to bring it home and put it in my garage. NOT for “clout” like half the haters out there claim I am in search of. LISTEN TO ME, If I was doing this shit to impress you I would have been able to accomplish that with a GTR. I do what I do for ME. For my own personal accomplishment. TO check it off MY LIST of goals. I wanted it in my garage for ME. To say “I fucking made this happen”.
Back in Buffalo NY the wheels began to turn. Faster and Faster. Nose to the grindstone we worked our asses off. Day in day out. No stone left unturned. We took every last penny this business made over the next 19 months and invested it back into growing our company and growing our team. In order to BE THE BEST you must hire passionate people and make sure that they are well taken care of. (take a hint, and you know who you are. You cannot pay your staff shit wages and expect them to be loyal and passionate to the brand. If you eat your team eats. End of Story)
(Now I am skipping A LOT that happened along the way but we will save those stories for another day) As most of you know all of that hard work, stress and risk taking paid off. In the summer of 2018 we flew to NYC once again to take delivery of our brand new 2018 Lamborghini Huracan Performante. Later that week a trailer pulled up in front of our house and a little Serbian man get out of the truck and simply said “Mrs. Cruz, I bring you your rocket”. He took it off the trailer for us, handed us the keys and away he went! The car made it’s way up our driveway and into its place in my garage. HOME SWEET HOME. I FUCKING DID IT!
I think what amazes me most is the look you get from people when they ask you “How does it feel to own a Lamborghini”. To be honest, it feels like I earned it. It doesn’t feel “overwhelming or surreal” it literally feels like “yah, I worked for this so here it is”. Simple life math. You dream it + put in the work and all I listed above and yes it equals = Your dream coming true! Today I reflect on this to not only remember how far I have come but to show you that you too can accomplish anything you set out to achieve. NEVER SETTLE FOR LESS THAN YOUR DREAM. Your 5 year old self will thank you. ?
