I can still hear the song “Dreamer” by the band Supertramp. When it would come on my Dad would turn the radio up all the way in his little Ford Ranger. The smile on his face was large, he would drum the steering wheel and roll the crank style windows down. I didn’t know it as a kid (I thought he was just crazy LOL) but that song was his anthem and those are the memories I want my children to have of me.
When I first met my husband he called me a “dreamer” and I have no doubts that I have my Dad to thank for that. He was the biggest dreamer I knew. Always talking about his goals in life and never being afraid to dream as big as he wanted. In hindsight, I don’t think he himself thought that he could accomplish most of them, but his ability to talk about dreams out loud opened up a whole different perspective on life for me. Everyone who knows us both would most likely say that I am the 2.0 version of Dan the Man, the dreams are bigger than ever and I know that I will succeed at anything I set my mind to. I am proud to be a dreamer, it’s what gets me through the hardest days. Before I ever owned a Lamborghini I could close my eyes and envision myself driving it. What it sounded like, how it handled and most importantly how it made me FEEL.
So why is dreaming important? Dreaming big is the foundation of success. It takes a lot of courage and creativity to dream beyond what others think is possible. However, the key to making big dreams a reality is to be comfortable with feeling uncomfortable (something I had to get over quickly in life). When you dream so big that it makes others feel uncomfortable, it means that you are on the right track to achieving great things. People will doubt your abilities or question the feasibility of your dreams. They may discourage you from pursuing your goals, or try to bring you down with negativity and sometimes it my not be coming from a place of hate it may be coming from a place of love. Your friends and family may just be looking out for you and don’t want to see you fail. They truly may not be able to wrap their heads around your dreams and that’s okay. Above all it’s important to remember that their discomfort is not a reflection of your ability or potential. I have come to find that most simply put, it is a result of their own fears and limitations.
Over the past 8 years I have checked many dreams off of my list along the way but honestly the list just keeps on growing. Just a little disclaimer: If you are not a dreamer this next list of dreams will probably make you feel a bit uncomfortable.
Building my dream home- (I want this more than anything but it does have the highest price tag. I could reduce the square footage or downgrade the finishes to get started sooner but I won’t. I Can’t. It’s what I want.)
Bugatti Chiron
Buy a yacht (minimum 75 ft)
Rent a Private jet for a family vacation
Own a private jet
Buy a private island in the 1000 Islands (continuing one of my dad’s dreams)- The very last phone call I had with my dad before he passed was about this very house in the 1000 Islands. “You gotta buy it Lindz, you’ve always wanted it.” 🥲
I’m sure I will drum up a few more dreams along the way to add to this list. I believe the point of this blog was to encourage you to dream. Dream daily, dream big, dream with authority. A human that is not dreaming has no clear direction in life and you will absolutely have lower self-esteem. I am a “seasoned dreamer” so I am perfectly fine with dreams being 7-10 years away and still stay motivated.
Don’t know where to start if this is all new to you? Start small, try a goal that seems attainable in 6-8 months! Even setting small goals such as “I will save $2,500 in my savings account in 6 months” or “I will pay off my credit card in 6 months” will absolutely start to give you confidence and direction.
As I stated above, the very last call I had with my Dad was all about dreams. What the goals were and how to execute. It was a conversation we had often. I will miss that most but will keep dreaming on.
If you stayed to the end do me the honor and share a dream that you have in life. I would love to read them!
Love this so much! I definitely need to write my dreams down!
I’ve always wanted to own a Shelby GT500. It’s my dream car and i want nothing more than to get in the driver seat and call her my own! One day I will! 🙂
